The St.George Island light was built in 1852, at the southern tip of "Little" St. George Island - just off the mouth of the Apalachicola River, Florida. Over the years, storms and erosion imperiled the light; it collapsed in 2005. The St. George Lighthouse Association worked with the State of Florida to salvage the lighthouse; it was rebuilt inland on St. George Island and opened to the public in December 2008.
