The Whipple Block was built in 1882 as a Masonic Temple and a public hall.

The building was designed by architect I. F. Davis. It was built by Muchmore and Whipple. It has been damaged by fires in 1894 and 1930. Today it has shops on the ground floor and offices above including the Dartmouth Psychiatric Research Center.
