Just offshore in Pearl Harbor, a ferry takes visitors to the National Park Service Memorial. There is a visitor's center on the island, which gives the history of the ships which were destroyed and the sequence of events that happened on Dec 7, 1941. 1177 crewmen lost their lives during the surprise attack by the Japanese. The monument is built over the submerged remains of the ship, and visitors can see some parts that remain just under the water. A list of names is inside the memorial.
