Sunshine Skyway Bridge - Wikipedia Entries on Waymarking.com

Living here all my life I have heard about and see a lot of the problems with this bridge. From the accidents to seeing the Highway patrol officers trying to talk down jumpers. The Sunshine Skyway Bridge is the world's longest cable-stayed concrete bridge, with a length of 29,040 feet (exactly 5.5 miles or approx. 8.85 km). It doesn't list it, but the Coast Guard Cutter "Blackthorn" had it's accident here resulting in the deaths of twenty-three servicemen and is still the worst peacetime loss of life in Coast Guard history.
