The original Punta Gorda Fire Department Station 2 was constructed in a secluded area behind a shopping plaza to cover the expanding Punta Gorda community in its southern areas. It was constructed economically and had an ideal location for training in PGFD's live fire trailer, but the warehouse-like structure became troublesome over time. The plans to construct a new Station 2 were a discussion for many years. Then, in 2008, it happened.

The new station is located on a different piece of property in the same area. Station 2 provides optimal efficiency, comfort and ammenities for firefighters to work and rest. Firefighters moved in during October and the building was dedicated in November 2008.

The training trailer will remain at the original location.
