John Dryland strove throughout his life during the 1860s and 1870s to make Kettering town a healthier place. He formed a new local government, founded a new water supply and was a town benefactor. This memorial is a drinking fountain with horse troughs and a drinking trough for dogs attached. It bears the following text:
