It is located in the wooded rolling hills of northwest Louisiana As of 2007, Rodessa's population is 310 people.
Originally the first name of the town was “Frog Level.” It is historically stated that sometime in the latter part of the nineteenth century that the area had grown somewhat. So, area people gathered late one after noon to decide upon a name for a town. One gentlemen spoke up and said, “From the way the frogs are hollering we ought to name it Frog Level.” You see not far away down under the rise there was a large “bottom” and swamp that Black Bayou went through that the “Frogs” were located.
The name of the town was finally given from a Kansas City Southern Railroad Station’s agents daughter’s name, Rodessa.
Mile-deep pools of oil were discovered in July 1935 was at that time rated as among the largest in the U. S.
