USGS 1146 - Illinois Chapel, Prairie Grove, AR - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

This disk is not listed in the NGS on-line database. I noticed it on the topo map and decided to look for it. The mark is located on the property of the Illinois Chapel Baptist Church on Illinois Chapel Road to the East of Prarie Grove, AR. The disk is bolted onto the end of a pipe that projects several inches above the ground. The mark is located approximately 24.5 feet South of the centerline of Illinois Chappel Road. The mark is located approximately 67.3 feet Northeast of the Northeast corner of the Illinois Chapel Baptist Church. The mark is several inches South of a standard NGS carsonite witness post.

The disk is somewhat scuffed, but the elevation and datum are still easy to read. I did not see a date stamped. However, based on the type of disk I would estimate somewhere in the very early 1900s. The mark is stamped datum is "F S", which I surmised stands for Fort Smith. The elevation stamped on the disk is 1146 which differs from the topographic map by 1 foot (1145).
