Swindale Beck separated the two parts of the village. Originally crossed by a ford, later by a bridge. Today the A66 dual carriageway separates the halves. The primary roads pass through Market Brough, B6276 and A685, whereas Church Brough is quietly to one side of the A685 from Kirkby Stephen.
