In december 17, 1937, the river Tevere (Tiber in english) in the city of Roma (Rome), Italy, reached a high water mark of 1.70 meter above the pavement of the church of San Bartolomeo, located on the island Isola Tiberina, in the center of the city. It is the greatest flood in Rome since 1870. Dams that were built upstream between 1957 and 1966, have reduced the chances of such floods.
