Sunday schooling was an important part of the Methodist church with 1.5 million children attending Sunday schools of all denominations, in the 1830s. Apart from basic schooling, trips out were planned, particularly among Methodists. The schoolroom is next door. In 1888 the Brough circuit was described as prosperous both financially and spiritually, with over 450 members. Second only to the Ulverston circuit.
It is now part of the Kirkby Stephen, Appleby and Tebay circuit.
