Rev W.W. Lord wrote -
"White man. Greeting! We near whose bones you stand were Iroquois. The wide land which now is yours was ours. Friendly hands have given back to us, enough for a tomb."

The Indian mound that you see here are Indian remains excavated in this field were reburied in 1874 at the base of this mysterious mound. The tablet, with poem by The Rev. W.W.Lord, was placed over the remains by Mrs. Alfred Corning Clark in 1899.
