This statue of a buffalo is on the "fieldhouse plaza," just outside the football stadium. The buffalo was chosen as mascot for CU in 1934; the live female buffalo is named Ralphie (Ralphie V is currently the running buffalo; Ralphie IV is semi-retired and makes public appearances, but does not run in the stadium), and the (presumably male) costumed mascot is named Chip. Ralphie was originally called Ralph, but it was changed when the student body became aware that the live buffalo was female for safety reasons.
This particular statue is entitled "Monarch of the Plains."
School name: University of Colorado at Boulder
