Chattahoochee United Methodist Church was established just before the Civil War on May 21, 1860, when John Trammel deeded three acres of land on a rise above the west bank of the Chattahoochee River north of Robertstown for a church and cemetery. The first church building was made of logs and used for both church and school. It was located nearer the river then the present church. In April 1912, the church's property was increased by one-eighth acre deeded by J.J. Fain. Many of the early graves in the cemetery have unmarked rocks at head and foot. The earliest marked grave has a flat rock headstone hand-chiseled to read 'T.J. Owens, Dide July 21, 1862.' Chattahoochee United Methodist Church was used in 1950 in filming the movie 'I'd Climb the Highest Mountain' the story of a young circuit rider. The movie starred William Lundagen and Susan Hayward. Many of our members are descended from the early founders of the church.
