The marker reads:
Northern Kentucky's first doctor. Born in Oxfordshire, England, on July 10, 1737. Graduate of Royal College of Physicians. Served at Quebec with Gen. James Wolfe. In 1765 settled in Virginia; the personal physician to Patrick Henry. Chief Surgeon, in 1775, for the "Gun Powder Expedition." Practiced medicine in Newport from the early 1800s until his death Sept. 28, 1828. Presented by Campbell-Kenton County Medical Society.
