The uniqueness of this memorial is hard to describe. In the obelisk to the left, behind the smokey glass door, is a row of books. Each book is for each of the major wars where someone from this area served. They canvased all the people they could find to provide the information. Within the books, each page is for a separate individual. His/her name, rank, service number, dates of service and and information of duty stations, actions, and movements. Some of the information came from the military, some from family members, some from web sites.
This small town put out an amazing effort to make a special place.
Type of Memorial: Multi-War Memorial
Wars mentioned (Multi-war only): All Wars
In Honor Of: All Veterans
Marker Text: see above.
Date of dedication: 2006
Who Put it Here?: Hull Community
Description of Memorial: They tore down an old inner city brick building which was in sad shape. One wall was about to give way. They cleaned the area and covered the dirt with gravel and sod. Upon which they built this memorial. 5 flag poles, for the service flags, and a sixth for the country flag. A unique bench, poles with chains for a border, and a brick sidewalk to enter. The central boulder carries a simple plaque of dedication. Bricks were sold to create the circle around the boulder.
To the left, almost parallel with the bench is an obelisk with a plastic door on the front.
Behind that smokey glass door is a row of books. One marked for each of the major wars of this country. Inside each book are pages, and pages. They each contain a specific name. One for each who served from here.
