Chase county, originally part of Hayes county to the east, was organized in 1886. Imperial, a stop on the Burlington Railroad was selected as county seat but three elections were needed. The Burlington Railroad donated funds for the construction of the first courthouse, a frame building which was destroyed by fire in 1910.
The present courthouse, designed by A.T. Simmons, who was also the architect of Dundy County's courthouse, was constructed in 1911.
