Description of Memorial:

Small stair step wall used as entrance gate to the small city park. Pink marble stone (seen through gate in photo) used as monument.
The park is clean, well kept, and full of new and polished clean play equipment. A couple of picnic tables and not much more.
Just up the street is a memorial to Gladys Swarthout, opera singer, star of the New York Metropolitan Opera Company who was born in Deepwater and died in Florence, Italy.
If you turn your back to the entrance wall and look out, you will see a perfect city laid out in front of you. Only problem is each city block contains only grass, and a few trees. There are no homes or buildings. I am told floods took most of them.
