Entered service at age of 14 without enlistment. Enlisted later with his brother James and served under Capt Hester with Gen Taylor. Later served under Gen. Richard Caswell. In 1779 he enlisted for 3 months under Capt Pearce and transferred to command of Gen Davidson as 1st Sgt. Was in 5 battles.
