About 15 August 1775, Blount enlisted in the Continental Establishment of the United States Army, and served three years in Captain Sears’ company, 1st Virginia regiment, under Colonel Hendricks of the Virginia line. In August 1778, he joined Captain Crump’s company, 1st Virginia, commanded by Colonel Parker of the Virginia line.
