This Weather Station is part of the ADAS research facilities in Boxworth. They moved to this site in 1959 and were established in the village in 1948 at another premises. The research is farming based with a focus from weeds to water in cropping and the environment.
There is a book 'Pesticides, Cereal Farming and the Environment: Boxworth Project (Hardcover)' issued by the Fish & Food Ministry of Agriculture described on Amazon as follows:
'Initially greeted with scepticism, the Boxworth Project now marks an important watershed in research and attitudes towards the environmental impact of the heavy use of pesticides by cereal farmers. This MAFF experiment was planned in the late 1970s and continued through the 1980s. The results both demonstrate a variety of complex ecological effects arising from pesticide use and point the way towards safer, yet economically viable, systems of farming. Because of the unique nature of the Boxworth Project and the great influence it has had on other studies and the use of the "whole-farm" approach, this volume has been published in response to demand for a non-technical overview.'

The Weather Station is part of the dedicated and continuing research into this important aspect of humanlife.
