At 2,140 feet long and 264 feet tall the Goodnough Dike is the shorter of two dams that were built to create the Quabbin Reservoir. It was built between 1933 and 1938 and contains 2.5 million cubic yards of fill.
It was named for X. Henry Goodnough who spent many years working for the Massachusetts State Board of Health and Department of Public Health. He was the chief advocate for the creation of the Quabbin Reservoir.
