Bridge Number L-5853, built in 1904, originally carried a walkway over the streetcar line. The bridge once served as a main entrance to Como Park, and to the north there was a vine-covered lattice-work archway. Up the hill to the north, early twentieth century visitors were greeted with views of the Schiffman Fountain, the Lakefront Area, the East Picnic Grounds, and the Mannheimer Memorial.
