USGS TT-15DRD 1960, VA, is a U.S. Geological Survey bench mark disk set in the top of the wing wall at the southwest corner of the bridge that carries Little River Turnpike (County Highway 236) over Interstate Highway 495, Accotink Creek, and the Fairfax Cross County Trail in Annandale, VA. The disk is mounted in the center of the 1.5-foot x 1.5-foot horizontal top of the wing wall, about 12 feet southeast of the centerline of the exit ramp from southbound I-495 to eastbound Little River Turnpike, about 20 feet northeast of a metal pole that supports a YIELD sign, about 2.5 feet south of the west end of a four-inch round railing mounted in the top of the south balustrade wall, and about 0.5 feet above the level of the roadway. The disk is stamped TT 15 DRD 1960 ELEVATION ABOVE SEA LEVEL 256 FEET. To reach from Interstate Highway 495 (Capital Beltway) southwest of Washington, DC, take Exit 52 for Highway 236 / Little River Turnpike westbound towards Fairfax City. Go west on Little River Turnpike for about 0.3 miles to the intersection with Lake Blvd leading north and Pineridge Drive leading south. Turn left onto Pineridge Drive and then immediately turn left again and go east on the service road that runs parallel to and immediately south of Little River Turnpike. Go east on the service road for about 0.12 miles to house number 8005 on the right and the west end of a metal guardrail on the left. Park and walk south for about 40 feet to the south shoulder of Little River Turnpike. Walk east for about 0.14 miles across the I-495 entrance ramp to the I-495 exit ramp. Run southeast across the exit ramp, hop to the southeast side of the guardrail, and resume walking east along the guardrail for another 100 feet or so to the southwest corner of the bridge and the disk in the top of the wing wall. CAUTION: The south shoulder of Little River Turnpike is NOT pedestrian-friendly, and crossing the highway ramps is very hazardous. DO NOT attempt this approach unless capable of running across roadways and vaulting over guardrails. DO NOT try this with children. First found on 04/03/2003; last visited on 12/01/2005. Recovery originally logged at the Geocaching datasheet for station MILL, PID = HV8566.
