A beautiful example of the Queen Anne's style of ecclesiastical architecture & 1 of the most carefully preserved Victorian Churches in Maryland. It was the earliest Anglican settlements in the colony.
The congregation was first established at Claibornes settlement at Kent Point in 1630. The building was constructed in 1880. The Gothic structure of this building dates back to 1880. It has a steep slate roof, a stone foundation, & is distinctly different from most buildings in the region.
The unusual chimney in the medievel 'lancet' style, actually dates back to the 13th century. Wooden pegs were used instead of nails to build this structure.
The main structure is garnished with simple glass stained windows in 3 pairs along each side wall & a larger arched window in the south gable is behind the alter. The bell tower ajoins the east fascade. The dramatic interior is dominated by the steeply pitched ceiling & is supported by open, stick-style trusses that divide the duilding into 4 bays.
This site housed one of the oldest congregations in the state of Maryland until they relocated to its present location, in 1995, to Rt. 8 South.
