This Azimuth Mark is located about 25' SW of the extended centerline of Orchard Ave - directly across the highway from pole # LA3-93.

A reworking of the 1966 description is as follows:

About 2.4 miles northeast along U.S. 522 from its junction with the U.S. 322 Bypass at the NE edge of Lewistown, set in a round concrete monument, 54 feet SE of the centerline of the highway, near the NE corner of a small wooded area, and about 5 feet above the level of the highway.

I didn't realize it at the time - this turned out to be my 1000th found benchmark (on Geocaching.com). I talked w/ a landowner on the NW side of the road who lived there for many years & just learned this BM was here a few months ago - I talked w/ him about their purpose & about the area for a few minutes..sometimes meeting a few of the people living nearby & learning a little local history makes the hunt more fun!
