I found this very interesting World War I memorial whilst looking for a nearby cache. This pair of gate posts were originally part of the Sawyers Gully School which once stood at the site.

Description:
Two cement gate pillars, originally recorded on this register without their original name plates.
The gates were restored and unveiled on the 28th of January 2006. Updated photographs and information were supplied by Mr Robert McLardy.
Prior to restoration, material submitted in November 1999 to the Abermain Heritage Preservation Society Newsletter, "The Pit Whistle", No 6, provided a list of names taken from an earlier photograph (see additional images). This list included the names T. Calsay, C. Page & ?G. Page?, which are not listed on the restored plaques.
