The city of Hopkinsville purchased land near Cave Spring for use as an African American cemetery in 1912. The city laid out the platt for the land and purchased several trees that were planted in the cemetery. Cave Springs Cemetery is still in use today. There approximately 2,500 graves in the cemetery.
