The town of Ada, Ohio grew up due to the railroad here. The rails, part of the Ohio & Indiana railroad was completed in 1854. It became part of the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1869. Due to Ada's rapid growth in the 1880's after the addition of Ohio Northern College, the railroad decided to build a station here. It was originally to be a smaller standard depot, like many in other small towns, but they changed their plans. It ended up being a two-story "Stick Style" depot with a telegraph office on the upper floor. It was completed in 1887, and remains one of the few surviving Pennsylvania Railroad depots. It was placed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 1998
