From the Discovery website:
The Fort East Martello Museum and Gardens in Key West, Florida, once a military battery for the U.S. Army, is now home to Civil War artifacts, Stanley Papio sculptures, and Mario Sanchez art. The museum sponsors a variety of temporary art and history exhibitions, educational programs, and art classes, as well as permanent displays of Florida Keys history. The battery was built in 1862 to defend Fort Taylor from the possible threat of a land attack during the Civil War. No attack ever occurred, and neither the East nor West Martello Towers were finished. Today the East Martello Tower houses a general art gallery and Key West museum.
