This old depot was built in 1879 as a combination freight and passenger station. The Valley Railway was built primarily to bring coal into greater Cleveland from southern Ohio Coal mining regions. In 1894 this depot along with the rest if the Valley Railway line became part of the Cleveland Terminal and Valley Railroad. In 1915 the CT&V was absorbed into the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. B&O continued passenger service along this line and through this depot until 1963. Chessie ceased using the line for freight in 1985.
Today the depot is a part of the National Park Service. It has been restored and is in use to serve the popular Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. It is one of the stops on a pleasant ride through northeastern Ohio.
