Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge lies at the North end of Cayuga Lake, in the heart of the Finger Lakes Region of New York State. The refuge was established to provide resting, feeding and nesting habitat for waterfowl and other migratory birds. Encompassing more that 8,000 acres in the middle of one of the most active flight lanes in the Atlantic Flyway, the refuge has long been recognized for its importance to wildlife, especially migratory birds. Hundreds of thousands of birds pass through the refuge each year.
Montezuma is home to several pairs of nesting Bald Eagles and provides for wildlife dependent education and recreational opportunities for visitors. Montezuma W.L. Refuge includes a 3.5 mile wildlife drive, walking trails, a visitor center, 3 observation towers and platforms, fishing access sites, hunting programs and several educational programs.
