The plaque reads:

D-30

Former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Iraq

The design of this howitzer dates from 1963, although it did not enter service until 1967. Performance for this caliber has been enhanced over earlier models due to its longer barrel.

The most distinctive feature is its three legged trail, which offers rapid, all round traverse. For traveling, the trail legs fold beneath the barrel (by which the piece is towed). For firing, the wheels are jacked up enough to clear the legs, which are positioned at 120 degree intervals. The barrel can then rotate fully about its center pivot. Stability is provided by anchor pins at the end of each leg. Other features include a box shaped covering over the recoil mechanism (above the tube) and a tiny shield is fitted between the wheels. D-130s were dangerous anti-tank weapons in the 1973 Yom Kippur War. At least ten nations now have this artillery weapon in service. This example was brought to Fort Sill by 6/27th Field Artillery Regiment.
