This historic building is a lasting monument to the importance of freight transportation during the early development of Minneapolis, and the clock tower is the most distinguishing feature.
When built in 1899, the tower rose 140 feet into the air and had an elaborate cupola modeled after the Giralda in Seville, Spain. However, high winds destroyed the pinnacle in 1941, and the tower has had a flat top ever since.
This structure is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the train shed remains one of only twelve like it still standing.
