Indian Spring Cemetery is the second oldest cemetery in Charlotte County, dating back to the early 1800's when former Punta Gorda City Councilman James L. Sandlin donated the land to the County. Former Florida Governor Albert Waller Gilchrist is laid to rest on these grounds.
2,500 former residents are resting on these grounds, some of them without markers or with markers with the identifications weathered off. There is a section, called "Potter's Field", for free adult indigent burial and a section, called "Babyland", for free infant burial.
Briefly in the early 1900's, Indian Springs Cemetery was known as Pineapple River Cemetery.
