Frank constructed a 16x20 foot hardening garden for the Master Gardeners of Hampton at Bluebird Gap Farm in Hampton, VA. He had over twenty Scouts and adults pitch in over the course of a long weekend to build the structure.
The garden is used to house young plants to allow them to mature enough to endure the elements before being transplanted. Since the hardening garden is very spacious, the gardeners can use it for shade relief from the heat during hot summer days. This was a particularly rewarding project for Frank because, as a toddler, he would enjoy a fun-filled day at Bluebird Gap Farm. The project was a great way for him to say thank you to the community and afford others enjoyment at the farm for years to come.
There were many very generous donors--individuals, non-profit organizations and businesses--for the project from throughout the Hampton Roads area. Contributors included: Francis Pride, Knights of Columbus, the Elks Lodge, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Farm Fresh Foundation, Ricco's Pizzeria, Treated Lumber Outlet, and Mactavish Salvage.
