This home, built in 1925, is one of the few (most likely the only) examples of Prairie School architecture in the Rio Grande Valley.

Mr. and Mrs. Enrique Manautou left Mexico and settled in Brownsville, opening general merchandise stores in Mission, Mercedes, Harlingen, Donna, Brownsville and McAllen. By 1927, Mr. Manautou had sold all of his smaller general merchandise stores and opened a large department store, E. Manautou, on Market Square in downtown Brownsville. His store remained opened until 1967.
Mrs. Manautou choose the design of the home from a pattern book, and the Manautous hired architect E. Guy Holliday to oversee the erection. Although one might think the home was Arts and Crafts style, the NRHP narrative states that the home is most definitely Prairie School.
