Jivaka was a personal physician to Buddha and the king. He is widely regarded as the father of Thai natural medicine and Thai massage.

This statue is on the grounds of the Grand Palace in Bangkok, Thailand. Visitors and local Thai as well come here to place offerings (usually a lotus blossom) at the foot of the statue and to ask for blessings of good health. The story of his life and how he came to be a close associate to royalty is fascinating. Here's a link with a good history: (visit link)
