The cathedral was designed by Maximiliano Hell, the same designer of Sao Paulo's Cathedral. The cathedral has a crypt. The cathedral was founded in 1545 as Nossa Senhora do Rosário Aparecida, and the original main church was demolished in 1907. The cathedral was inaugurated in 1924, but it wasnt finished until 1967.
