According to Washington - A Guide to the Evergreen State. American Guide Series, c. 1941. p. 287, the OLD CITY CEMETERY, east of the reservation, between 10th and 13th Sts., accessible by Winchell Ave. lies on a gentle slope originally part of the Vancouver barracks. Its moss-covered tombstones commemorate many pioneer settlers, including members of the Short Family.Since this was written, the cemetery is no longer accessible by Winchell Ave. Evidently Winchell Ave. extended north in 1941. It now ends at Mill Plain Blvd. The main gate to the OLD CITY CEMETERY is locked. You have to park on narrow 13th Street and enter the cemetery from the northwest corner. Or crawl through a gap in the fence as I did. For information on the Short family, check out "Murder near the Witness Tree" Waymark and/or "The Witness Tree" Geocache.
Instructions for logging waymark: A photograph is required of you (or your GPS receiver, if you are waymarking solo) and the place.
