Goritsy is a little Village on the Sheksna River, part of the water route between the Volga and St. Petersburg. A short walk from the cruise ship dock there's a fenced area with a rough stone sculpture of a kneeling soldier wearing a World War II uniform. He holds his helmet in his left hand and his rifle in his right hand.
There were no inscriptions or plaques in the area. It was maintained but not meticulously landscaped. I couldn't determine if it was also a cemetery area.
World war II is known here as the Great Patriotic War. Casualties were enormous in this country. Our tour guide told me that this simple sculpture is typical of the monuments which can be found in almost every Russian Village.
