A section of the Fayetteville-Salem plank road, a toll road 129 miles long, built 1849-1854, followed this route.

Sign is located on Main Street, at the High Point Railroad Depot, just beside the rail bridge.
It is also very close to the statue called "The Plank Road Foreman" a sculpture by artist David A. Dowdy Jr. dedicated in 2004, to honor the men and women of the area who worked in various industries to establish the city of High Point, NC.
