In the church's early years a preacher used to walk from Shap to the church every Sunday to preach here. In those days there was no public transport or even cars and very few horse and carts.
The church is on A5284 Windermere Road as it descends in to Kendal, at a busy cross roads. This church replaces a Methodist chapel built here in 1808. Building started in 1882. First meeting held here 29 March 1883. There are rooms for hire.
