There is a historic marker in front of LeRoy Schools that states the following:
Ingham University Campus Site of First Women's University
Founded by Marietta and Emily Ingham in 1837, as the LeRoy Female
Seminary; Incorporated in 1852 as the Ingham Collegiate Institute;
chartered on April 28, 1857 as Ingham University with a Literary College, College of Fine Arts, and the Conservatory of Music. An
estimated 8,000 students attended Ingham between 1837 and 1892.
The University closed in 1892 and the buildings razed. Stones from the Staunton Art Conservatory were used to erect the Woodward Memorial Library.
Dedicated to the Ingham Alumnae by the women of LeRoy 1999

Website link is to an article written for the LeRoy Pennysaver giving more details to the history of this school.
