Referred to in local newspaper articles as "America's only underground nightclub", the Bangor Cave Club was created from a series of smaller caverns by dynamiting a larger public entrance near a special spur built to the cave by Louisville and Nashville Railroad.
Concrete was poured onto the natural cave floor which was then tiled for a dance floor.
Local fieldstone was used to create a natural-looking bar and orchestra pit. There was also a private casino behind a heavily-bolted door opened only to the lucky few with enough money to lose.
Now litter-strewn and decorated with grafitti, Bangor Cave still attracts history buffs and curious spelunkers. Today, you can still see the intact entrance, bar, and orchestra pit in a cavern filled with dim memories.
