Bug eyes and gaping mouths adorn all sides of this happy statue. Artist Peter Rockwell, son of Norman, carved the Climbing Stone from a block of soft limestone, and placed it next to a sandbox and swingset, where kids climbing over it will gradually re-shape it, each child becoming in part the creator.
Located only a few feet from the Climbing Tree on the grounds of Haverford College, the area is open to well behaved visitors during daylight hours. Enter the college from Route 30 at N 40° 00.723' W 75° 17.964' or from College Avenue at N 40° 00.631' W 75° 18.598'. Either way the road will take you to parking at N 40° 00.351' W 75° 18.301'. From there, walk NNW along any paved surface to the Library with its long curved entrance ramp. A few feet to your left at N 40° 00.532' W 75° 18.480' is the Climbing Stone waiting for your impression.
