Canyon City was established in 1862, when gold was discovered nearby . The St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church was built in 1876 and is one of the earliest churches in Canyon CIty. The church survived major fires in 1885, 1898, and 1937 and a sever flash flood in 1896, each of which destroyed large portions of Canyon City.
Regular worship services are help each Sunday at 10:00 AM. Morning prayer is conducted on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sunday while Holy Eucharist is celebrated on the 2nd and 4th Sundays.
