The Carlin Villa was a pleasant motel to stay the night.
If you find yourself in the area and need to lay your head, this place will accomodate nicely. The folks running it tell us they're trying hard to keep it afloat, so come on all you roadies and lend them a hand. The rates are quite reasonable so stop for the night here. It gets a brief mention in the E-Z Guide by Jerry McClanahan and Jim Ross, as it sits on the old alignment of Route 66, now Route 4.

It's somewhat off the beaten path but worth the stay. The room was huge and the owners are really putting the customer first. The outside may look a little run down, but the rooms are clean & updated. This was definitely worth the time to get there for the stay, we would go there again in a heartbeat. They were very friendly even though we were calling them at midnight. Family owned and run, they're doing their best to keep this baby up and running.

UPDATE: Make sure you check out the new website, this motel is no longer affiliated with the chain featured in the opening photo. We will update with a new photo of the sign when it is complete. Almost a year to the day we stayed there again and the service and rooms are just as good. The family is as friendly as ever and trying very hard to make this work. This is a definite MUST stay for the Route 66 traveler. It makes great use of seeing both alignments of Route 66 running through that area. It also makes a great home base for heading up to Springfield,IL and down to Staunton, IL and picking up the newer alignment.
