Eden, North Carolina was once park of the estate of William Byrd. During the early 1700's Mr. Byrd's estate was known as "The Land of Eden." This historic marker stands at the southwest corner of the Byrd Estate.
Interesting fact pointed out by 3newsomes in their visit log: "This is the original marker set in 1936, making it the oldest of the historical marker in Rockingham Co."

"20,000-acre estate of William Byrd, Virginia planter, author, surveyor if Va.-N.C. Line 1728. S.W. Corner was here."
