This is the tallest lighthouse in NJ and the third tallest in the USA. The lighthouse, which was built in 1857 under the supervision of Lt. George Meade - who later gained fame as the Commander of The Army of the Potomac and as the victor at Gettysburg.

It is is 171 feet tall or 228 steps up. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1933 and later placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. Admission charged to climb.
